Let's Get Acquainted
Hi, and welcome to my blog. I intend to use this space to give some views of my professional areas of expertise, and my views on the industry within which I work. I am also going to give my thoughts and musings on some of the things I do outside of work to try to keep myself balanced – I am no expert in these areas, but if I can help by providing some ideas and thoughts, so much the better.
I live in the West Country of England in the UK with my wife where we try to maintain a balanced work/social lifestyle - not always easy, especially with the seismic changes that have occurred to everyone in 2020.
I am an experienced IT professional and have worked for a number of multi-national services and consulting companies. I started my career in the early ‘80s, and have worked in various areas of the industry, from software engineering, through troubleshooter and trainer, to consultancy and solution architecture. During this time I have seen the transformation of technology from standalone dedicated mainframes, minis, and micros to the pervasive connected platforms of today – this has been a societal as well as a technological shift which I will talk about.
Outside of work, especially in a time of crisis, how do we keep ourselves balanced? I will be thinking about both physical and mental well-being from the view point of an older (not old 😊) person.

I am a strong believer in social justice and that everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. This ensures those who require support have the protection and safety that they need whilst allowing those who can have the opportunities to use their potential for the good of themselves, their families, and wider society thereby ensuring that everyone can live their best lives. As part of this belief, I volunteer as the director of a not-for-profit called Pocket Angel CIC whose aims are to allow the public to help provide short, medium, and long term help to those experiencing homelessness and other social deprivation by means of digital technology including the Pocket Angel Assist app, our website, and our social media streams.
